Nissan Pickup Project

1995 Nissan Pickup

When I got this pickup, it was a junkie. Everything on it was falling apart. Got it for $1,000 in April of 2014  from a coworker. Here are all the things I have done to improve it.

12. Boss 600 watt Sub System ($180)
The speaker system in the pickup was only using 2 speakers instead of all 4 (2 front, 2 back). So I got it to use all speakers by the wiring. While I was doing that I decided to upgrade the system with: Sub Amp, New Stereo, Duel 6.5 inch Subs 300 watt Each. When I completed it, it sounded better than ever and I'm the kind of person that has to have GREAT sound. It is March, April will be my first year owning this 1995 Nissan Pickup.

11. Spark Plugs Kit ($55)
Took the pickup for a checkup to see why the engine was misfiring and having no power to stay idling. They recommended to change the spark plugs and if that wasn't the problem they would help me find the problem with no extra pay. Yet, it was the spark plugs. Works really well and I am getting close to being the owner of the pickup for a whole year.

10. Harmonic Balancer ($170)
I got to my work place and when I tried to start the pickup, it made a broken sound. The belts weren't moving but the engine was. That is when I was concerned. Took the harmonic balancer off it the key became unknown for it was one with the shaft. I thought the shaft was wrecked and was going to scrap the engine. Yet, it was just the key and got the balancer replaced and the key slot was a poor design. Had to jerry-rig it to work right.

9. Battery ($150)
It wouldn't hold a charge with the new alternator. Battery was 4 years old. Replaced it and the connections for the battery wasn't getting power efficiently. I sanded the connecting rods and clamps for the best connection you can get. Haven't had a problem yet. Got $80 from the trade-in battery and that was helpful.

8. Alternator/Alternator Belt ($250)
The belt was looking unreliable to where it needed to be replaced. As soon as I replaced the belt, the actual alternator got fried and stopped working. Took it out and the coils were fried. Replaced it and worked well till the battery.

7. O2 Sensor ($95)
Engine was misfiring and making a sulfur odor at idle. It became gutless. When I chanded it out, it got rid of the smell and it has a lot more power to where I can actually do big loads now.

6. Tailgate ($70)
This is something I wanted for loading wood from work and other projects in the future. I went to the auto-wrecking and got a brand new blue tailgate.  It actually looks good with the color white.

5. New Clutch  Set ($215)
The Throw-out bearing was making many sounds that it should never make. So when I replaced the bearing I just went for the clutch set. The clutch was bare when I took it off and the bearing was wobbling when you spun it. This was a project that I hated because of the egsaust system, it had to come off first than everything else.

4. Re-Alignment ($780)
From hitting the curb, I wrecked my front end really badly that the Auto Shop took 2 days and costed me a pretty penny of around 800 dollars. It actually drives and feels better that when I originally got it.

3. Ignition Switch ($140)
This was a very major thing. It had a very bad connection when starting the car. Had to shake the key  to start it and that sometimes didn't work. Got to the point that I had to hot wire my own car to get home from work. When I replaced it, I thought it was heaven.

2. New Tires ($345)
The pickup had had tires that were older than 10 years and in Washington there is a rule of tires are not to be on the roads if older than 10 years. Plus, I nicked the curb at 40 mph which popped the front tire. Funny, when this happened I was next to Firestone Tire Factory. Got set of 4 all seasoned tires.

1. Rear View Mirror ($4)
The rier view mirror was barried in the back with crap. Yes, I got the pickup when it still was messy. I got the silicone for the mirror and it worked well. Still holding.
