Soda Can Stove

Soda Can Stove

Things Needed:

        1) Thumb Tack or Nail
        2) Two Aluminum Cans (soda cans work the best for heat transfer)
        3) Utility Knife
        4) Heavy Book
        5) Penny
        6) Sharpie
        7) Sand paper or file (if wanted)
        8) Alcohol (close to pure)
        9) Lighter (candle if wanted)

Step 1:  Grab two aluminum cans of the same type. You can can sand the paint off the cans if wanted to make it look professional.

Step 2:  Mark the cans from the bottom about an inch. They want to be about the same size.

Step 3:  Cut along the line you have made. To do so, you'll need to put the blade at the back of the book. Go around till you make a puncture. Don't push to hard. You want to do several rotations. Once it punctures,  you can now press where the puncture was. it should separate at that line. After the cut, you can sand or file the sharp edges down.

Step 4:  This is the hard part. Make sure that the cans are as level as you can get it. and slip one can into the other. Both bottoms of the cans should be on the outside. If having trouble, cut a small piece of the can which was extra into a guide. Like I said, its a hard part.

Step 5:  Once you got that part done. Push it in kind-of tight. You'll then make 4-5 holes with the thumb tack or nail in the center to where you'll put the fuel in and cover the holes with a penny.

Step 6:  Using the same tool, you'll poke on the edge of the can on the same side that you put the holes in the middle. Make sure there evenly spaced apart.

Step 7:  Fuel the can with a small amount of alcohol for the first time to be on the safe side. You will need to get the alcohol hot enough to make a vapor with the lighter or candle from the bottom of the can. Once it gets hot, try to start in from the top. Once it starts going at a steady rate, put the penny on.

NOTE: The Penny is to make the flame more controlled and longer lasting.

That is how you make a Soda Can Stove.
